India: Japan Airlines #472, a Douglas DC-8 en route from
Mumbai to Tokyo, and carrying 156 passengers, was taken over by armed members of the Japanese Red Army (JRA). Shortly after taking off from Mumbai, five JRA members hijacked the aircraft and ordered it flown to Dhaka, Bangladesh. At Dhaka, the hijackers took the passengers and crew hostage, demanding $6 million and the release of 9 imprisoned JRA members. On October 1, Prime Minister Takeo Fukuda, citing the need to protect human life, announced that the Japanese government would accept the hijackers’ demands. Six of the imprisoned JRA members were then released. A chartered Japan Airlines (JAL) flight carried the money and the six released JRA members to Dhaka. The exchange took place on October 2nd. The hijackers released 118 passengers and crew members. On October 3rd, they flew to Kuwait City and Damascus, where they released 11 more hostages. Finally, the aircraft was flown to Algeria, where it was impounded by authorities and the remaining hostages were freed. Several of the JRA radicals involved in the hijacking have yet to be apprehended. Their current whereabouts are unknown.

Nightmare Passenger #4

AUSTRALIA - A man who threatened to kill a flight attendant on a Virgin Blue flight last week has
been fined $4000. Glen Leon Fave, 46, pleaded guilty to three charges in the Cairns Magistrates’
Court yesterday after the flight from Brisbane to Cairns on September 11, The Cairns Post
reports. Commonwealth prosecutor Adele Noble told the court that Fave had poked a passenger
and continued to annoy her with abusive language throughout the flight before threatening a flight
attendant. “He boarded the plan intoxicated,” Ms Noble said. “He kept pushing her seat and
saying she was a snob.” Ms Noble said Fave continued to hassle the woman and upset other
passengers by swearing and yelling out to “shut those … kids up” when children cried. The court
also heard that while the seatbelt sign was on as the plane taxied on the Cairns runway, Fave
stood up and said “Come over here with a knife and I’ll slit your … throat” to an attendant who
asked him to sit down. The police escorted Fave from the flight. Fave then denied he had made
threats and disrupted the flight. “Your … joking,” he said when police told him of the allegations
against him. “If I was going to say anything, I would have said I will blow your … head off.” In his
defense, Fave said he was drunk and had a fear of flying. “I am totally sorry for what I did. It’s a
bit late now, but I am,” Fave said. Magistrate Allan Comans said Fave, who was from New South
Wales, behaved appalling and made the flight “quite miserable” for the other passengers. Fave
had convictions recorded against him for making threats and false statements, common assault
and behaving in an offensive and disorderly manner.

Wheelchair Holster

It appears that these holsters were originally designed for motorcycles but have been modified for wheelchairs. Several variations of the mounting of the holster are displayed on the manufacturer’s website.

Why I am not in Politics!

Everyone will miss-speak from time to time but Barrack Hussein Obama’s error in this Sunday talk show interview would sink most politicians. We will see how invested the mainstream media is in his candidacy when and if the persistent issue of Obama’s ties to his fathers’ faith is explored in depth.

Chapter 22 London Baptist Confession of 1689

here is an interesting excerpt from the 1689, Chapter 22 “Of Religious Worship and the Sabbath Day” paragraphs 7 & 8:

7._____ As it is the law of nature, that in general a proportion of time, by God’s appointment, be set apart for the worship of God, so by his Word, in a positive moral, and perpetual commandment, binding all men, in all ages, he hath particularly appointed one day in seven for a sabbath to be kept holy unto him, which from the beginning of the world to the resurrection of Christ was the last day of the week, and from the resurrection of Christ was changed into the first day of the week, which is called the Lord’s day: and is to be continued to the end of the world as the Christian Sabbath, the observation of the last day of the week being abolished.
( Exodus 20:8; 1 Corinthians 16:1-2; Acts 20:7; Revelation 1:10 )

8._____ The sabbath is then kept holy unto the Lord, when men, after a due preparing of their hearts, and ordering their common affairs aforehand, do not only observe an holy rest all day, from their own works, words and thoughts, about their worldly employment and recreations, but are also taken up the whole time in the public and private exercises of his worship, and in the duties of necessity and mercy.
( Isaiah 58:13; Nehemiah 13:15-22; Matthew 12:1-13 )

VP Sarah Palin

Posted by Robin on August 30th, 2008

What more can you want:

  • Married twenty years
  • Mother of 5 (the last one was born while in office)
  • Pro-life
  • Governor
  • NRA member and hunter
  • Wants to drill anywhere there is oil — including ANWR

and here is some more info from an email, titled “McCain’s Dangerous Choice” I got from Moveon.org (with my remarks in parenthesis):

  • She was elected Alaska’s governor a little over a year and a half ago. Her previous office was mayor of Wasilla, a small town outside Anchorage. She has no foreign policy experience. (actively governing a state gives more experience than being a ‘community organizer’ and being elected a do-nothing senator)
  • Palin is strongly anti-choice, opposing abortion even in the case of rape or incest. (yeah! In the case of rape or incest tell me again what the unborn child did to qualify for capital punishment? How about we execute the rapist and find a good home for the baby … huh?)
  • She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for president in 2000. (problem with that?)
  • Palin thinks creationism should be taught in public schools. (give children a rounded education - they can handle the truth unlike some with anti-God agendas)
  • She’s doesn’t think humans are the cause of climate change. (duh!)
  • She’s solidly in line with John McCain’s “Big Oil first” energy policy. She’s pushed hard for more oil drilling and says renewables won’t be ready for years. She also sued the Bush administration for listing polar bears as an endangered species—she was worried it would interfere with more oil drilling in Alaska. (how about Palin for president w/McCain for VP)

Fun? Worship?

Pastor Bill Moore has some insightful things to say about Sunday Morning Worship over at Carolina Commentary …

“… I believe that churches which are built on fun and relationships are part of the reason Christianity is deemed irrelevant by all too many in our culture.

Frankly, if I want to have fun, I’d rather go play a round of golf. If I want to be entertained with music, I’ll listen to my iPod or go to a concert. If I want to build relationships, Kynette and I will invite someone for dinner. I do not go to church on Sunday mornings for fun or entertainment or to build relationships; I go to worship God with fellow believers.”

Believer’s Death

Posted by Robin on August 2nd, 2008

As a believer’s life is very different from an unbeliever’s life, so also a believer’s death is very different from an unbeliever’s death. The unbeliever prefers Heaven over Hell; the believer prefers Heaven over this earth. The unbeliever prefers Heaven only over Hell because he cannot imagine anything more blessed than this life. The believer prefers Heaven over earth, because the believer cannot imagine anything more blessed than life with God. - Unknown Source

There is a great deal of difference between the desires of Heaven in a sanctified man and in an unsanctified one. The believer prizes Heaven above earth, and had rather be with God than here, though death stands in the way and may possibly have harder thoughts from him. But for the ungodly, there is nothing that seems more desirable than this world, and therefore he only chooses Heaven over Hell, but not over earth; and therefore shall not have it upon such a choice - Richard Baxter

When he prophesies, it’s in pirate

Posted by Robin on July 29th, 2008

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — Sam Brobst took a “Learning Your Spiritual Gift” course at Full Life Center, a charismatic church, and felt the Lord leading him to prophesy during meetings. But when Brobst opened his mouth the first time, he and others were surprised by what came out: pirate speak.
“We were in the middle of worship, when this voice rings out, ‘Yar! Hear the word of the Lord — the Lord of the mighty seas!’” says one witness. “It was straight out of a Disneyland ride.”
Brobst says he can’t help it: when the Spirit moves upon him, he clamps one eye shut and his voice becomes gravelly and menacing. On a recent Sunday, he prophesied, “Avast ye, mateys! Hear the word from our Cap’n: No fear have ye of storms and scallywags, says ye? Argh! But I be seein’ your true hearts. For I see below quarterdecks, says I. Ye be tremblin’ in the face of scurvy dogs. But pay them no heed. For I be preparin’ to pour down plenty o’ booty upon ye. So be of cheer, me hearties! Ye be loved of the Cap’n.”
The people of the church by now are accustomed to it, though first-time visitors often giggle.
“It doesn’t even sound like pirate to me anymore,” says one regular attendee. “My mind translates it.”
Others say it’s preferable to past prophetic styles they have witnessed.
“One woman would wail her prophecies,” says longtime member Darlene Bright. “Another man would thunder in a deep voice like he was trying to impress us. All in all, I prefer pirate.” •

1906 Dime

When I was working my way through flight training I worked in a drugstore in Key Largo, FL. Occasionally I noticed rare coins like this one in the change drawer. With permission I exchanged my money for these coins … though they are worn and have little collector value they are real silver. I have a number of silver dollars as well as a few buffalo nickels …
