I had a curious thing happen yesterday… waiting for our aircraft to arrive I was loitering in the hallway leading from the aircraft into the terminal when I saw an obviously distressed older man trying to go through a doorway that was locked - he was going the wrong way. He was mumbling and fussing and I thought that he just needed some direction. I asked him where he was going & he said Atlanta was his destination; I told him that he needed to go this way to get to baggage claim and he replied that he would never fly ____airline again. I gave a generic apology and he said that his baggage was ‘lost.’ He further stated that when he checked in before departing the gate agent said he was late and his bag would not make the flight. I assured him that if this was true his bag would arrive on a later flight and the airline would do all it could to get it delivered to him wherever he was staying. He was not placated. In fact he repeated his previous statement that he would never fly our airline again. I have heard this statement many times but still, I made a sincere generic apology (I do recognize the relationship between each passenger and my paycheck!). He was not calmed by any of my attempts to comfort him.

But then he said that he wished he had been born in Sweden. He hated how barbaric the US of A had become and was ashamed of our country. I said, ‘good day!’ and walked away leaving him to fume.

The liberal intellectual and Democrats should be ashamed of themselves for their continued drumbeat of anti-American sentiment that leads poor sheep like this to actually believe that our country is the source of all evil. Yes, there are many problems and self-inflicted evils in our country but we are still the home of freedom and people flock to our shores because all the world desires what the USA has been given. Not only natural resources but the heritage of an earlier Christian heritage that would allow men and women the freedom to express themselves without fear of retribution or pressure to conform.

I am fine with this man’s sentiments but wish he had the moral fortitude to move to Sweden … or to shut up and count his blessings. He obviously had enough money (gained from the evil capitalistic system he hated) to fly to another state in a tenth of the time it would have taken him to drive. No doubt at his age he benefited from our medical system … etc. I imagine he was willing enough to take advantage of all the benifits of being a resident in our country yet bellyaching constantly about its faults.

Perhaps he was a little unwise to be spouting anti-american sentiments to a pilot at an airport!!! Do you think it might have risen to the level of a security threat?

After our conversation I thought about informing TSA about this situation. But then, I was glad I didn’t since he made no actual threat against the USA or anyone else as far as I could tell (has there ever been a terrorist attack perpetrated by an older white man?).

I am all for freedom of speech but on the other hand, the Bible takes grumbling seriously and though the TSA doesn’t reference biblical wisdom (as far as I know) in its deliberations it does take anti-American speech at the airport seriously.

Something to say?
